Lough Ree To Get Life Boat

From Dave McCabe Lough Ree Life Boat   I am please to announce that as a result of a successful local campaign and with the support of the National Association of the IWAI, The RNLI has agreed to establish a local lifeboat service on Lough Ree. The IWAI has offered space on its site at Dunrovin, for the eventual permanent station premises.

The Club is currently in the process of setting up a club library. The plan is to provide both a members lending library and an in-house reference library

Reference Library

This library will be an in house reference only facility, primarily to assist in dive plan preparation and training and will be located in Training Room.

Member’s Lending Library

This library will operate as a member’s lending library located in The Committee Room. Control will be based on trust & operate on a simple card index system.

Library Content

Books of general interest to our members, in particular relating to;

Diving, Seamanship, The Sea, Our Waterways, Local Interest, Training, Technical, etcWe are not attempting to provide what can generally be obtained at your local library. We envisage creating a catalogue and borrowing will be free but confined to members.

This is where you come in. We are now inviting the general membership to donate either;

            2 Books from their own collections.

            Make A Financial Contribution (Suggested €25)

            We intend to have the nucleus of the lending library in place by the AGM, i.e. 20^th Nov 2011.

Next Sunday 6^th Nov. 1300 - 1430hrs is the start of Pool Training. That would be a good time to donate or alternatively arrangements can be made to collect.

All contributions will be acknowledged and gratefully received.

Well done to all who took part in the  simulated rescue carried out by Athlone Sub Aqua Club and Athlone Order of Malta at Carna Bay, Lough Ree on 23rd.October 2011. Special thanks to Juniors who were a great help on the day and put their bravery where their mouths are and took part in the Local Community Radio interview

Pool Training, Athlone Sports Regional Centre

Pool Training, Athlone Sports Regional Centre

Winter training will recommence on Sunday the 6th November at 1pm.  The session is from 1pm to 2.30pm.  Try a dives will be held throughout the month of November.  Please come early to sign in.  5€ for Adults/Divers and 3€ for children.  We look forward to seeing all members there. 

Athlone Sub Aqua Club, Annual General Meeting 2011

This years AGM will take place on Sunday the 20th November 2011 at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, Athlone at 4pm.  All members welcome.

The local organising commitee under the auspices of the local IWAI branch, consisted of Dave McCabe, Damien Delany, Brian Corcoran, Vincent Rafter and Denis Bergin. Over 100 local volunteers are on our database of potential lifeboat operatives and helpers.

It is hoped that the service will be operational for the 2012 season.
