Athlone Sub Aqua Club Celebrates Arthur's Day

Athlone Sub Aqua Club got into the recent spirit of Arthur's Day by making a delivery of Guiness in the traditional way, by water, but with a slight difference. A group of divers from the club towed 25 barrells of Guiness down the River Shannon from Brick Island to Sean's bar. The consignment was received by Timmy Donovan the proprietor of Seans Bar.

As you can imagine towing barrells of Guiness is thirsty work and works up quite an appetite. This thirst was nicely quenched with an extra cool pint of the black stuff. The barbeque that followed in Seans bar was certainly wecomed by everyone who took part.  Celebrations continued with live music and entertainment. A great night was had by all. No doubt Arthur would have been proud!

This unique celebration of Arthur's Day certainly attracted a lot of media attention and received a well deserved mention on the Ryan Turbridy show the following morning.

Sincere thanks goes to Timmy Donovan from Sean's Bar who helped organise and sponsored the overall event, to the club members that participated and to the public for their generous support. Proceeds raised from this event will help fund  Athlone Sub Aqua club's Search and Recovery Service. Members are requested to return outstanding sponsorship cards to the club's Fundraising Officer as soon as possible.
