Athlone Sub Aqua Club was required to give assistance to two stranded boats on Wednesday 14th July 2010.

Early in the day the club received an official call out from the Coast Guard requesting the club to give assistance to a boat that was experiencing difficulties with its engines. Club members Robbie West, Declan Keyes and Bernard Larkin promptly responded to this call out, towing the stranded boat back from St Johns, Lough Ree to the town jetty located beside the Radisson Hotel, Athlone.

Later that evening, club members, on returning from providing water safety cover duties for the Athlone Triathlon Club encountered a small speed boat suffering from engine failure at Coosan Point, Athlone. The club responded by towing this boat back to Ballykeeran campsite.
