Club's Provision of Safety Cover for TriAthlone 2010 a Huge Success
- Categorized in: Archive, News Items
Athlone Sub Aqua Club has successfully responded to its greatest ever challenge by co-ordinating Water Safety Cover for TriAthlone 2010.
This year's event, which was held over three days between 1st and 4th July 2010, also incorporated the ITU (Irish Triathlon Union) European Triathlon Championships.
With over 3,000 competitors taking part, this major international sporting event represented the second largest championships ever staged in Ireland, second only to the Special Olympics.
In order to respond to the challenge of ensuring the safety of thousands of swimmers Athlone Sub Aqua Club prepared a Water Safety Cover Plan which was subsequently approved by the ITU. Responsibility for the implementation of this plan rested with Athlone Sub Aqua Club. This involved the club co-ordinating the activities of its own diving members and other water safety cover volunteers from the Army, Galway and Inny Kayaking Clubs, the Order of Malta and local lifeguards.
Athlone Sub Aqua Club would like to thank all of its own members and their spouses, partners and friends who were involved in the planning and delivery of water safety cover for TriAthlone 2010 and for all of their assistance with regard to crucial support activities such as organising safety equipment and food catering. The club would also like to express its gratitude to all the other water safety cover volunteers involved for their invaluable assistance to Athlone Sub Aqua Club. This combined effort contributed immensely to making TriAthlone 2010 a successful, memorable and above all a safe occasion for all of the competitors involved.
