Joining the Club

Athlone Sub Aqua Club is always looking for new members to join the club. Individuals wishing to join the club can opt for any one of the following categories of membership.
Diving Membership
New scuba diving members (minimum age 14) are taken on each year either as trainee divers or qualified divers. The process for joining Athlone Sub Aqua Club is as follows:
(a) Trainee Divers
During the months of November and December Athlone Sub Aqua Club encourage those interested in taking up the sport of scuba diving to come along to the pool at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre, Ballymahon Road, Athlone on a Sunday morning at 12.30pm to ‘try a dive’ accompanied by an experienced instructor. This ‘try a dive’ experience is free of charge and there is no obligation to join the club. Individuals who decide however to join the club are then required to pass a simple swimming test, complete a medical examination with their GP using CFT’s standard Medical Form, complete a Membership Application Form and pay membership fees to the club.
(b) Qualified Divers
Athlone Sub Aqua Club welcomes divers who are already qualified under CMAS and other diving federations including BSAC, PADI, NAUI, SAA, SDI, TDI, ERDI, IANTD, ITDA and SSI. As a certified diver your current diving qualification may be offered an equivalent status under CFT’s certification structure. Further details on equivalency are available from the club’s Diving Officer and CFT.
Skornelling Membership
New snorkelling diving members (6-13 years of age for junior snorkellers and over 14 years of age for senior snorkellers) are taken on each year usually during the months of November and December.
During these two months Athlone Sub Aqua Club encourage those interested in taking up the sport of snorkelling to come along to the pool at the Athlone Regional Sports Centre, Ballymahon Road, Athlone on a Sunday morning at 12.30pm to take up membership. This involves passing a simple swimming test, completing a Membership Application Form and paying membership fees to the club.
Associate Membership
A large number of people choose to join Athlone Sub Aqua Club as Associate Members. These members enjoy the same benefits as all other members with the exception of partaking in scuba diving and snorkelling activities.
These benefits include:
• Club Car Sticker
• Regular Club Newsletters
• Access to members area of Athlone Sub Aqua Club's website
• Boat trips (where practical and at the diving officers discretion)
• Opportunity to attend the clubs swimming pool sessions on Sunday mornings between November and April of the following year
• Opportunity to purchase a range of club clothing e.g. polo shirts, fleeces etc
• Opportunity to attend club meetings, outings and social functions
Individuals who wish to join the club as an Associate Member are simply required to complete a Membership Application Form and pay membership fees to the club.
Payment of Membership Fees
Membership fees may be paid to the Club Secretary or Treasurer. Alternatively you may opt to Pay your membership fees online.
Policies
Athlone Sub Aqua Club is committed to providing an environment that provides equality of opportunity to all persons to access and participate in the club's activities. The club also adopts a pro-active approach to ensuring that every member has a right to be treated with dignity and respect. In order to achieve these objectives the club has adopted an Equality, Dignity and Respect in Sport Policy.
The Club also has a Child Protection Policy and Procedures in place to ensure the well being of its younger members.
