- Categorized in: News Items
Congratulations to Athlone Sub Aqua Club members Ger Craven, Brian Duffy and Stewart McMickan who successfully passed a Professional Scuba Association International (PSAI - www.psai.com) "Advanced Gas Blending" course on Saturday 22nd January 2011 in the Tigh na Mara, Brick Island, Coosan Road, Athlone. This course consisted of a revision of Nitrox Gas Blending theory before progressing to the theory and mechanics behind Advanced Gas Blending for Heliox and Trimix gases. The course involved extensive practical work consisting of the filling and analyzing of cylinders containing Trimix gases. Following the conclusion of the course Ger, Brian and Stewart completed an examination to confirm their understanding of the course material. Thanks go to Barry McGill, who delivered the course. Barry is a very experienced technical diver who has explored and photographed many deep wrecks including HMS Audacious (64 m) RMS Lusitania (92 m), HMS D6 (92 m), SS Flavia (105 m), Carinthia (115 m) HMS Curacoa (125 m) and SS Translyvania (131 m). Barry was a member of the Deep Wreck Mysteries Crew which documented and filmed the HMS Curacoa, HMS Audacious and the SS Manchester Commerce in 2008 for the History Channel. Thanks also go to the club's Training Officer, Aidan Henry, for his overall support for the course.
