Westmeath County Council has awarded Athlone Sub Aqua Club a grant of €1,000 from its 2010 Community Action Grants Scheme. This grant will be used to purchase a global positioning system (GPS) unit and an emergency oxygen (O2) kit.

The GPS unit will enable club members to safely navigate rivers lakes and seas when conducting diving operations whilst the O2 kit will be available, in the event of a diving accident, to treat victims of decompression illness.

Athlone Sub Aqua Club is extremely grateful to Westmeath County Council for this grant assistance as it is finding it increasingly difficult in the current economic climate to obtain funding for the purchase of essential diving and safety equipment.
